Barbarian camps and raids: loot, trophies and keeping your capital safe

How barbarian camps and raids work in Ironbarrow: scouting, clearing camps for loot and trophies, defending your capital and protecting a new city.

· 2 min read

Barbarians are the safe way to learn war in Ironbarrow. They give loot, trophies and experience, and they never log off. But they also march on your capital, so you need to understand both sides.

Clearing barbarian camps

Camps dot the world map. Send troops to clear one and you take its loot and earn trophies. Trophies are your research currency, so fighting camps feeds your research as well.

Scout first. Until you scout a camp, the map only shows an estimated defense. A scouting party tells you how strong it really is, so you do not walk into a trap. Every class trains its own scout.

A cleared camp regroups after a while and may come back stronger, so there is always a next one.

Raids on your capital

Camps near your city send warbands against your capital from time to time. You are told how long you have before they arrive. Barbarian raids only ever target the capital, never your colonies.

How to be ready:

  • Keep soldiers at home. Troops away on a march cannot defend.
  • Upgrade Walls. They make every defender count for more.
  • Station allies' troops. Alliance members can send soldiers to defend you.
  • Clear the camp. Clearing a camp delays its next raid.

New cities are protected

A new city is protected for a while at the start so nobody can attack it straight away. The map explains why you cannot attack someone when they are protected.

Monster cities

Further out, monster cities hold bosses and the best gear. They only fall to an army with a hero at its head. Read the hero guide to prepare.

Reading the result

Every fight appears in your Reports page with a banner for victory or defeat, a bar comparing the two armies, what each side lost and any loot. Press Share to post a report in chat.

Quick checklist

  1. Scout the camp.
  2. Send more than the estimate.
  3. Leave defenders at home.
  4. Read the report and try again.
