Hero guide: skills, adventures, gear and wild animals
Everything about your Ironbarrow hero: levelling, the four skills, adventures every 30 minutes, gear and rarities, hero items, the backpack and wild animal traps.
Your hero is one powerful unit that you level up, equip and send on adventures. A good hero makes every army stronger, and monster cities only fall to an army with a hero at its head.
Level up and spend skill points
Your hero earns XP from every enemy slain while leading an army or defending the city, plus a bonus for each camp cleared. Each level gives skill points. There are four skills, each with up to 50 points:
| Skill | What it does |
|---|---|
| Might | More attack for armies the hero leads |
| Guard | More city defense while the hero is home |
| Plunder | More loot carried by the hero's army |
| Swiftness | Shorter march times with the hero |
You can reset your skills if you change your mind, for a few trophies.
Adventures
A new adventure turns up on the board every 30 minutes, and the board holds up to 20, also while you are away. Pick one and your hero goes out for gear, hero items, gold and XP. Only one adventure runs at a time, and the hero cannot lead armies or defend the city until it finishes.
Gear and rarities
Gear comes in rarities and goes into the hero's slots. The best gear comes from monster cities: Epic, Legendary and Mythic gear only drop from bosses. You can forge gear to improve it, and trade gear with other players on the market.
The backpack
Spare gear and hero items share a backpack that holds 100, with +100 for Premium and up to +100 more from the Pack Mules research.
Hero items
Items are used up when you use them. A Bandage means 20% fewer troops die in battle for an hour, and a Surgeon's Kit means 40% for two hours. Others give XP, speed up an adventure, boost attack or improve loot.
Wild animals and traps
Wild animal camps stand at random places on the map, and they are the same for every player. Open a camp, choose how many traps to set and press the button. Traps are hero items found on adventures. Caught animals live in your Menagerie and defend your capital, with no upkeep. Bigger animals are worth more, but one trap catches fewer of them.
Which skill first?
- Raider: Might and Plunder.
- Defender: Guard.
- Explorer: Swiftness, so marches finish sooner.
