Alliances explained: treasury, wars, pacts and rally attacks
How alliances work in Ironbarrow: founding one, open or invite-only joining, the treasury, wars of different lengths, peace accords, oaths and rally attacks.
Alliances are the heart of Ironbarrow's shared world. They give you a private chat, shared defence and the chance to take on big targets together. This guide covers everything an alliance can do.
Joining or founding one
You can join an existing alliance or found your own for 200 gold. An alliance is either:
- Open: anyone can join straight away.
- Invite only: players ask to join, and a leader or officer decides.
New alliances hold 50 members. The leader can upgrade the roster step by step, up to 1,000 members.
What members can do
Members share a private alliance chat, can station troops in each other's cities to help defend them, and can send each other resources. You cannot attack members of your own alliance.
The treasury and alliance buildings
The treasury and the alliance buildings are paid for by member donations. Alliance buildings boost every member city, so the more members give, the stronger everyone gets. A leader can promote officers, who can spend the treasury, declare war and call off rallies.
Territory
Alliances hold regions on the map. Switch on Territory on the world map to colour each region by the alliance that holds it.
Wars
Alliances can go to war with each other. A war comes in three lengths:
| War | How long |
|---|---|
| Skirmish | 1 day |
| Campaign | 7 days |
| Total War | No end date. It ends when someone surrenders or gets 3,000 points ahead |
You can be at war with as many rival alliances as you like.
Pacts
On the Pacts tab you can sign two kinds of agreement, and there is no limit to how many you can have:
- Peace Accord: no attacks between the two alliances.
- Oath of Arms: sworn allies send troops to defend each other and fight each other's wars.
Rally attacks
A rally lets the whole alliance strike one target together, as a single battle. Members send their armies and they arrive as one force, which is how you take down defences that no single player could break.
Tips for a strong alliance
- Pick a leader who is online often.
- Agree on a donation habit early, even small ones.
- Use your alliance chat for scouting reports. Players can share a battle report in chat with one button.
- Read the class guide so your members cover both attack and defense.
