Barrowlands market guide: buy orders, sell offers and tax

How the Barrowlands player market works: sell offers, buy orders, how trades match, the 1% tax, offer limits and simple tips for buying and selling well.

· 2 min read

The Barrowlands market lets players trade items for coins. It works like an order book, which sounds complicated but is simple once you see it. This guide covers how to buy, how to sell and how to avoid mistakes.

Sell offers and buy orders

  • A sell offer says: I will sell this item for this price.
  • A buy order says: I will pay up to this price for this item. The coins are held by the market until the order is filled or you cancel it.

Open the Market page, tap an item in Browse and you can see the waiting orders on both sides.

How trades match

When you place an order, it first trades with the best waiting orders on the other side: the best price first, then the oldest. You get the waiting order's price, so you never pay more than you offered. Anything that does not trade stays on the book. An order never trades with your own orders.

Tax and limits

  • The seller pays a 1% tax on every sale. Buyers pay none.
  • You can have up to 100 orders at once (offers and buy orders together), or 200 with Premium.
  • Coins and items are held safely until a trade finishes or you cancel.

What sells well

  • Ore, bars and logs from skillers who want to save time.
  • Runes, because every mage needs them. See the Runecrafting and Magic guide.
  • Seeds, which are scarce on purpose.
  • Food and arrows before big fights and Depths runs.

Tips

  1. Check the book before you set a price. A price just below the best offer sells fast.
  2. Use buy orders for things you will need later. Set a fair price and let it fill while you are away.
  3. Keep an eye on what the Barrow Depths need: Depths guide.

Fair play

Do not move coins or items between your own accounts, and do not try to trick other players. Staff can remove offers that break the rules.
